Album of the Day
The Last Record Album
While beloved L.A. roots rockers Little Feat named their 1975 collection THE LAST RECORD ALBUM, it was not their final release; its title and Neon Park cover art offer a tip of the hat to the recent film The Last Picture Show. Like that Hollywood classic, the Warner Bros. set is immaculately crafted, with the sextet displaying the instrumental chops that made them favorites among countless musicians (including Linda Ronstadt, who provides a guest vocal here). The group’s guiding light, Lowell George, produced the record, but keyboardist Bill Payne and guitarist Paul Barrere play larger roles as songwriters, adding a jazz-fusion flavor to many tracks. With “Long Distance Love,” “All That You Dream,” and “Mercenary Territory” among its high points, THE LAST RECORD ALBUM is essential to any Feats fan.
